The remarkable sequence of hole in one’s go on. It all started on the 12th December when Paul Platten Aced the 2nd on the Hill. This was followed by Robbie Watts holing his tee shot on the Valley 15th a week later. Into the New Year just, 2nd January and Shaun Friend holes in one on Hill 11th. Captain Roger Garwood then joined the action Acing Hill 17th in a match play pairs comp.playing Mark Leeds and Andrew Fish with partner Roger Human. Standing on the 16th tee Garwood and Human were Dormy 3 down. Garwood won the 16th thus making the last two holes very interesting. Along comes the Ace on 17 so its on to the 18th Dormy 1. Alas there was to be no escape as a final half ended in defeat. Not to be outdone a certain Chris Tucker Aced the Valley 16th a par 4 reduced in distance because of Temporary tees and Greens. So Chris now has an Albatross to add to his Golfing stories, which occurred on the 23rd January. Barnham Broom men have now had Five Aces in the last 43 Days. I wonder if any club out there has surpassed this?
On 13th December Barnham Broom’s Ladies Section held their first Christmas Lunch. We were approximately 30, which was an extremely good number as several members were unavailable, due to prior commitments. The food served piping hot was excellent as were the staff our thanks to them and the Chef. A good time was enjoyed by all in no small measure due to the wine and prosecco!
Each table enjoyed great entertainment enacting the charades on the crackers and a Christmas Dingbats competition for all, proved quite thought provoking, so much so, some resorted to Googling the answers! Technology has a lot to answer for.
The Ladies played a Greensomes Competition prior to the lunch and the winners were mother and daughter team of Penny and Lulu Humberston. A raffle was also held in support of the Lady Captain’s Charity.
It is hoped that this will become a regular event in the Ladies Calendar.
The ladies section had a very successful year winning Division 2 and Division 6 as well as the Carrick Cup. Jo and Tara won the Young Cup, Ellie won the county Championship and Jo won the County Seniors Championship. There were many other successes in pairs and individual competitions at County, Regional and National level.
A big well done to our wonderful ladies.
Meanwhile …. “Team Barnham “ have been progressing nicely in this year’s County Handicap League. This year’s 22 man squad have been steadily going about their business both home and away since April remaining unbeaten in all seven matches so far thus qualifying for the knockout stages already with still one league match remaining.
Achieving this against teams such as Bawburgh, Swaffham, Thetford, Richmond Park I think you will agree is feat definitely not to be sniffed at and a massive pat on the back must go to everyone who has taken part so far. Gents you are a credit to your skipper, club and yourselves.
One last league match Away to Bawburgh on the 27th August allows the skipper to have one last look at a couple more pairings and allow him plenty of time to agonise over the personnel to take to the Semi Final and Final taking place on the 25th September at a neutral course as yet to be confirmed by County. The team would love to see as many familiar faces as possible to help “Team Barnham “ over the line in their quest for 2016 !!! Keep your eyes peeled for further updates.
Squad :- Andrew Fish, James Tinsey, Andrew Stebbings, Aaron Tillet, Stuart Black, Jamie Black, Harry Bradfield, Haydn Leeds, Tony Lynne, Andrew Lincoln, Shaun Friend, Gary Lutkin, Harry Severn, Roger Human, John Gould, James Ducker, Ross Davis, Peter Hall, Alaister Whyte, Steve Lane, Paul Dodman
Once again congratulations to all concerned so far.

Go Team Barnham Broom!!
It was great to see so many players in the Robin Brooks Trophy. This was a fitting tribute to Robins Brook’s life and loyalty to Barnham Broom Golf Club.
The trophy was won by a mixed team. Junior: Ellie Brown, Lady: Linda Asker, Male member: Jason Asker and Senior; Michael Asker.
The Cup and prizes were presented by Robin’s son, Ashley.
A wooden seat, dedicated to Robin was placed on the 12th Green. His daughter Tracey cut the ribbon and Ashley and Tracey were joined by Terry to be the 1st to enjoy the comfort of the bench.
