Well done to the ladies who won the 1st Round of the Diamond Knockout against Royal Norwich on Monday 25th March. This proved to be a very tough match, played on our valley course with a 19th hole needed as a decider.
Ladies who had represented Barnham Broom in the various teams last year celebrated with a meal together on Thursday 27th February.
Hopefully our 1st team will continue the success of the last two years.
A bouquet was presented to last years Lady Captain, Wendy Johnson and our thoughts are with her as she faces a difficult year in her personal life.
On Tuesday February 12th the ladies enjoyed a fun competition of Bing Bang Bong.
1st ball on the green scored a point. When all balls were on the green the nearest the pin scored a point and the 1st ball in the hole scored a point. This was doubled if one player scored all 3 available points.
The secret was to employ tactics.
Winner was Jane Johnson
2nd Bev Dennett
3rd LInda Asker
Wendy’s Final Fling was a pairs competition: Ace, King, Queen, Jack. A new format but thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Winners were Linda Asker and Sheena Perry
Runners up were Jill Devlin and Heather Bullard
Nearest the Pin: Jo Ashmore and Betsy BC
Following the Competition the ladies enjoyed a meal together.
A great end to a wonderful year.
Despite dreadful weather some gallant ladies played a Halloween Fun Competition with a few surprises along the way.
The winning team was Abril Carey, Felicity Leigh and Linda Asker
Lorraine Chappell and Wendy Johnson won the prizes for nearest the pin.
Some help towards the understanding of golf wording for novices & those new to BBGC:-
On 13th December Barnham Broom’s Ladies Section held their first Christmas Lunch. We were approximately 30, which was an extremely good number as several members were unavailable, due to prior commitments. The food served piping hot was excellent as were the staff our thanks to them and the Chef. A good time was enjoyed by all in no small measure due to the wine and prosecco!
Each table enjoyed great entertainment enacting the charades on the crackers and a Christmas Dingbats competition for all, proved quite thought provoking, so much so, some resorted to Googling the answers! Technology has a lot to answer for.
The Ladies played a Greensomes Competition prior to the lunch and the winners were mother and daughter team of Penny and Lulu Humberston. A raffle was also held in support of the Lady Captain’s Charity.
It is hoped that this will become a regular event in the Ladies Calendar.
The ladies section had a very successful year winning Division 2 and Division 6 as well as the Carrick Cup. Jo and Tara won the Young Cup, Ellie won the county Championship and Jo won the County Seniors Championship. There were many other successes in pairs and individual competitions at County, Regional and National level.
A big well done to our wonderful ladies.
The second annual running of the Family Trophy took place over the Valley course with 18 family pairs having some lively debates about which drives to take under the Greensomes format.
Whilst the weather was kind at the outset the forecast rain did materialise for once making conditions a little more difficult. That said, there was still some very impressive scoring.
The podium places were taken by:
3rd: Dave and Jo Ashmore with 42 points on count back
2nd: Will Bradfield and Paul Dodman with 42 points on count back
Winners: Simon Leigh and Josh Pinckney with 44 points who take the trophy!
A big thank you must go to the Hotel and all the competitors for their support of this event.
So if missed out this year make a note in your diary for next year’s event – should be in September. I know there are plenty more family teams out there!
