The high rough to left of fairway on 11th Valley is to be trimmed back.

A couple more coloured markers are to be placed on trees to left of fairway on 13th Valley to speed up play when looking for balls.

The steps leading down to green on 14th Valley were not wide enough and dangerous to use; these have now been widened.

The bushes on the 15th on the Valley are to be cut back in front of the tee.

w/c 3rd July 2017

Brian’s boys are hard at work providing us with two fantastic looking golf courses; let’s help them by making sure we repair pitch marks and rake that bunker if you are unfortunate to go in one.

The high rough to left of fairway on 11th Valley is to be trimmed back, perhaps 6 foot of shorter rough and then the remaining high rough to be kept. This will be done this week which should speed up play.

The tree to the left of green on 7th Valley is very high and starting to impact balls hit to left of the green; this tree will be lopped to prevent this happening in the future.

A couple more coloured markers are to be placed on trees to left of fairway on 13th Valley to speed up play when looking for balls.

The steps leading down to green on 14th Valley were not wide enough and dangerous to use; these have now been widened.

The winter cup on the temporary green on 5th Hill has been taken out and filled in; as this was becoming a health and safety issue.

The bushes on the 15th on the Valley are to be cut back in front of the tee.

Next week the greens on the Hill course are to be spiked scarified and top dressed.

IMG_2460

w/c 19th June 2017

The greens on the valley course have been top dressed with the new John Deere sanding machine. The photograph shows Alan Elliott dressing the 7th hole on the Valley Course.

The dropping zone on the 12th on the Valley Course by the green has been moved so now golfers have to pitch over the right-hand bunker. I was felt that the previous dropping zone was an easy option if you went long into the GUR.

Work has been completed on the steps by the 14th Green on the Valley to ensure the soil at the rear of each step is cleared allowing golfers a better foot placement.

Work has started on removing the large flints on the path from the 4th green to the 5th tee and also on the 15th on the Valley Course; this work well be completed by the end of June.

All the ropes in front of the greens on both the Valley and Hill courses will be removed apart from the ropes on the 4th and 6th on the Valley. These will have access through them to allow trollies to go through, but not buggies.

The yellow stakes on river along 12th & 17th holes on the valley have become overgrown with nettles and work will be carried out by the beginning of July to cut them back.

The high rough left of the fairway on the 11th hole on the Valley where a second shot can land leading up the left to the green is to be cut back another metre or so; this will help to speed up play.

The tree on left of the 7th green on Valley front left edge is to be trimmed back and will be completed sometime in July.

All the large cups on temporary greens are to be to be removed and the holes filled in to prevent any accidents.

Lastly the practice nets near the first tee are to be repaired this month.

w/c 22nd May 2017

Over the last couple of weeks Brian’s team have spiked the Hill greens and overdressed them with sand and seed.

All the surrounds on the Hill have been sprayed to combat any weeds that may appear; the Valley is to be done next week. Bunkers faces on the Valley are to be sprayed for weeds this week.

The Valley greens have been scarified for thatch and have also been ironed and are now beginning to roll true and fast.

Greens and tees are now being lightly watered overnight.

Apart from that there has been a lot of cutting of grass which at this time of year is an ongoing job.

We have had a lot of compliments about the condition of both courses and Brian’s boys have been praised for their work.

We are pleased to announce the birth of six signets by our resident swans here at Barnham Broom.

Please remember to repair your pitch marks and rake the bunkers if you are unfortunate to go in one.

Good Golfing.

  • Top dressed greens on the Hill Course
  • Have also been mowing tee’s, fairways and some rough approaches

w/c 6th March 2017

  • Work is being carried out to install a new Shoe cleaner and should be completed by next week. This will keep the area around the starters hut cleaner and the new compressor will be more efficient for cleaning shoes and trollies, an added benefit for members and visitors.
  • The team have been scarifying the greens on the Valley Course to remove a build-up of thatch  which will improve the growth of grass.
  • The committee at last night’s meeting wanted to pass on their appreciation of the speed at which the greenkeeping staff cleared up all the fallen trees that Storm Doris caused. Also it was mentioned that the improvement of the bunkers on both courses through the  bunker repairing  program has not gone unnoticed and Brian and his team are thanked for their hard work.

  • Jetting the drains and man holes on the 1st hole on the Valley Course.
  • All the tees on both courses will be spiked and hand cut.
  • Fairway’s on the Valley Course will striped and shaped to give a nice visual effect.
  • Bunker program of edging and tidying will be ongoing.

IMG_1317

w/c 13th February 2017

  • Tree trimming will also continue well into the week, finishing of areas of the course that need the extra dedication such as the 15th on the Valley, 6th on the Valley and 4th on the Valley,  meaning this task will then be completed as we await the growing season.
  • We will be continuing with maintenance work very similar to last week. The Valley Greens will be Hand Cut throughout, whereas the Hill Greens will get a triple cut setting the pattern for the future as the warmer weather greets us. The triple cut process will allow the greens on the Hill to become uniform in there speed and trueness within the putt, therefore preparing these greens ahead of time ready for the summer months. The Valley Greens will continue to be hand cut due to the softness of the greens and the different growth patterns this course represents
  • Both courses will continue to get extra care around the bunkers as the green keeping staff remain on course to edge all the bunkers on all 36 Holes. The reason for going through this process is to create a fair lip at the front edge of each bunker, which furthermore makes the escape shot a little easier and therefore keeps speed of play at an agreeable time, not to mention the aesthetic look all these bunkers will now have.
  • To finish of the tasks for the week, Brian and his team still have few drains that need jetting before completing this process, which will take place before the weekend.

IMG_1264

w/c 6th February 2017

  • We are verti draining the greens on both courses this week: this is an important procedure as it helps the greens drain and allows air into the ground.
  • The greens will be hand mowed again this week and the bunkers program of edging will continue.
  • Jetting of drains on the course is also ongoing.

IMG_1148

w/c 30th January 2017

  • Brian and his team have been busy this week hand cutting the greens and edging bunkers.
  • Another essential job that has taken place this week is the spiking of fairways; this does not look very pretty but doesn’t take long to repair.  This procedure helps with the drainage and aeration of the fairways; so well worth it in the long run.
  • The oak tree on the 15th on the Valley Course and the willow tree on the 17th on the Valley Course will be topped; this will help with those who struggle to get the ball high enough to reach these greens.

  • Removing all the dead branches from the tree on the short 11th hole on the Hill course; which will include cutting away the top of the tree. This will improve the look of the tree and make for a fairer shot to the green.
  • Preparing new hazard posts which are to be put out on the course early spring.
